Front Cover Images

Mejo Logos

I tested a couple of different designs trying to fit my demographic. Firstly I went with a dark blue design with a dark drop shadow to create a 3D image.

Then I used a green design with a inner shadow to look like the text has melted in with the background. I would then have to used the same colour for the background. So some colours would have to be avoided.

Another one of the designs was supposed to look like a river effect with the double text reflecting each other. This did not turnout well so i did not continue with it.

My favourite design out of all of the ones i have made is the 3D text at the bottom made in illustrator using the extensive bevel tool. Even though I like this design I didn't end up using it because the text were too bulky and too up alot of the magazine cover. If I chose to put it behind another design then it would be unreadable to the audience from far away. This would no be eye catching for the reader.

The title MEJO does not have a particular meaning because I didn't feel like the title had to represent a certain aspect or group. I wanted to come up with a word that solely represented the magazine and could be brand clearly to the audience. MEJO is a sort and snappy word that is easy to understand and can be designed to catch the readers eye to see what the magazine is all about. Having a word that means nothing allows me to give it a subject to represent. making it alot easier to design and come up with ideas for the rest of my magazine.

Unedited Version
The unedited version of this photograph is too bright and makes the keys of the piano looked blurred and merged together. The image is abit too large for a A4 sized magazine. The brightness of the white keys has left all the other areas darker because the main focus is for the keys. This is not what I wanted the photograph to look like. I changed my original ideas of using the outside photographs for my front cover designs to indoor shots. I felt this was necessary as I thought the indoor shots looked more professional and contrasted well with the colours I chose. Also none of the outdoor photographs had instruments or the right subject that I wanted to show. i believe this was the right decision because of the quality of the photos that came out for he indoor shoot.
Edited Version
To change this I used curve o darken the key areas which show more details for to the overall keys. This lightened up the other areas and now the main focus is on the entire frame of the photograph instead of the keys of the piano. I crop the image to fit the frame of the A4 magazine cover. I knew where i wanted to add my text I blurred the background more so that the back of the photo would not distract the audience form the text and masthead. The more visible keys shown give a appearance of leading lines as you follow one key to the next until you hit the text to the back.
